About me, Northwich Doula Kat.

Providing real continuity and family centred support in Cheshire.

Kat when she worked at 121 midwives holding a newbaby

Hi I'm Kat, I've been married to my lovely husband Dexter for 19 years and we have 3 children Isaac 18, Annabelle 14 and Jacob 8. I am blessed to be able to watch these little humans grow ( that doesn't mean I haven't found parenting hard going). We also have a chilled little Cavachon dog, a grumpy cat and 4 Hens. I have been a Doula for the past 6 years which enabled me to use my pervious skills and experiences in the early years and birth worker roles I've held. Not to mention my own first hand personal experiences which also developed my knowledge & understanding of pregnancy, birth and parenthood.

My aim is to provide a holistic approach to parenting, education and any additional support that is required.

Why become a doula?

My passion is to enable families to access the right support to help achieve their personal preferences and goals. I have worked around some amazing inspiring people who have helped shaped my care and ethos. I fully believe that the family should be in the centre of the care. I want families to feel they have been valued, listened to and received nothing but love, compassion and care. Pregnancy and parenthood is one of life's huge adventures and being supported by the right team is important. Continuity has proven again and again to help achieve better outcome for families and I can provide this.

"Kat has an ability to create an instant bond with you and has got to know our family inside out to be able to provide us with outstanding support."

I've grown as a mother and person over the years from studying child development and health and social care as a teen, working as a child minder and becoming an early years practitioner and setting up and running a home birth support group with a friend.

I've also worked for many years under the love of a team of case loading midwives & Health care assistant (HCA) as a Maternity support worker (MSW- MAMA). They helped me learn a variety of skills from birth support to evidenced based postnatal support, How to support feeding as well as clinal hands on skills and parent education. Furthermore I have provided families with KG Hypnobirthing and antenatal education classes over the last 12 years. I have enjoyed many years of being a breastfeeding support worker & I'm also qualified as a breastfeeding counsellor (BFC) with ABM  and have a vast range of skills in feeding and neonatal care & behaviour and development. Most recently I worked for the NHS within the community health visitor services as a nursery worker, offering starting solids classes ,infant feeding support, baby massage classes, sleep support, parenting & behaviour coaching and developmental reviews along side other tasks. I have kept updated on my paediatric first aid skills with Cheshire first aid and also hold the mental health first aider certificate.  I believe first aid skills are hugely beneficial when working with young families.

I'm a very friendly, warm and caring person. I enjoy taking photos and treasure the memories they hold. I love fairy's, toadstools, rainbows & glitter a little too much. I enjoy lots of different music's from The Beatles to Metallica. I have a few tattoos from Disney to lavender ones. I like to think I have a hippie side and I have found value in my own quirks I love the moon and daydreaming. I love walking in the woods and a trip to the beach.  I enjoy art and craft either for my self care or with my kiddies. I have found a love for fantasy books which also help me switch off.

I love my job, I love the feeling I get when I say goodbye to a family knowing they don't need me anymore, it is amazing. Being remembered for years to come for the love and support I offered is so rewarding. I get a real buzz from teaching as well watching parents to be find their own informed choices and path. - "its like your teaching us the dark arts." - as one dad said.

As well as my paid doula work I also offer some of my time to support families for free, working on the national breastfeeding helpline supporting families with all sorts of breastfeeding questions. As previously mentioned I also run the local homebirth support group in Northwich which is in  its 14th year this year. I provide a safe space to share stories, ask questions and invite all inc local midwives to attend.

I am also part of pregnancy, baby and you Cheshire- a team of local independent practitioners who host free events for you and your family. Why not check them out.

I am easy going and approachable, remember no question is a silly one, so why not get in contact for an informal chat and see if I can offer you the service & magic you're looking for.
