Doula support can be useful for both yourself and the birth partner, supporting the whole family to prepare and adjust to new life with a baby. Placing a value on the support for this period is really difficult as everyone has a different budget or service level they want and need. I try to give an overview below but please do contact me to discuss your needs or your budget.

What is  DOULA?

A doula is a non-medical professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to a woman during pregnancy, labour, and the postpartum period. Doulas offer a variety of services to help women have a positive birth experience, including:

During Pregnancy

  • Empowering women to make informed decisions about their health and care.

  • Providing education about childbirth and breastfeeding.

  • Helping women develop a birth plan.

  • Offering emotional support and encouragement.

  • Helping women connect with other pregnant women and families.

During Labour

  • Guiding women through labour and helping them cope with contractions.

  • Providing hands-on massage and other comfort measures.

  • Advocating for women's wishes and preferences.

  • Encouraging women to move and change positions during labour.

  • Helping women maintain a sense of calm and relaxation.

After Birth

  • Providing support to the mother and partner as they adjust to life with a new baby.

  • Teaching breastfeeding techniques.

  • Helping with infant care and household tasks.

  • Providing emotional support and encouragement.

Benefits of Having a Doula

Studies have shown that women who have doulas have:

  • Shorter labours

  • Less pain medication

  • Fewer caesarean sections

  • Lower rates of postpartum depression

  • Higher rates of satisfaction with their birth experience

"The support we have had from Kat antenatally, during the birth and postnatally has been incredible. We cannot thank her enough, she is an amazing doula and has made a huge difference to our family."

During pregnancy, birth and beyond its important to have the right support and care around you. This can provide lower postnatal depression rates, shorter labour times and better birth outcomes. My aim is to put you in the centre of what I offer and leave you feeling empowered, informed, supported and in control as much as you can with a new baby.

My role as a Doula can vary from family to family, it may be emotional support, physical support (light house work, shopping, cooking or childcare) feeding support and baby care support. I also have a back ground as a child minder, I keep up to date paediatric first aid, so will watch baby or siblings while in your home.
